Joys Eggins works as a Media Officer at the University of Goorka. She is co-founder of the Centre for Social & Creative Media working alongside local and international scholars using filmmaking as a tool for researching Indigenous Melanesian perspectives. She is one of the six directors of the Pawa Meri: Role Models of Inspire film series recently launched.

Joys Eggins has been exploring an indigenous approach to research and filmmaking in Papua New Guinea. Her major project included the use of visual tools among youths in a Western Highlands community around the issue of HIV and AIDS. At the CSCM, Joys works with researchers and filmmakers (including postgraduate students) through tutoring, mentoring, research and visual productions. She has a Master of Arts degree in Melanesian Perspectives, Communication for Social Change from the University of Goroka, a study pathway she chose following a previous BA degree in Communication Arts (Journalism), majoring in research methods at the Divine Word University in 2005. Her ambition is to find a balance between research and filmmaking in culturally rooted societies, where the communication tools can be used for something beyond entertainment.
