The portrait of a French family of North African origin during Ramadan. The approach of first generation immigrants to Ramadan was characterised by silence and discretion. For the following generations, Islam has become a central feature, linked to their parents and grandparents, and the traditional festivity has become a joyous event to be celebrated openly. Religious practice seems to be taking on the configuration of a cultural and social practice serving to maintain family ties.
