As a child, Shirel did not believe in fairies or guardian angels. Today she admits that her childhood could have been simpler if they had been alongside her.
After studying cinema at the NFTS in the UK, Shirel started producing commercials, and escaped from what she calls a "downward spiral" by returning to cinema. She started working with Jacques Rivette, Claire Simon, Pascal Bonitzer, Sophie Fillières, Arnaud Desplechin… alternating between continuity, first assistant and co-writer. Atlit is her first feature as a director.
