Director Hendricks turns his distinctive gaze onto Cape Town in this series of portraits of the poor and dispossessed. Poetic images of the city mix with characters - the homeless, alcoholic, unbalanced or simply unlucky - giving their never-heard side of the story. The intimate style of filmmaking encourages us to see the dignity in these characters, and the universal nature of their desires for family and security.
Filmed at the time of PW Botha's death, it builds into a meditation on what it means to be free.
